This work was inspired by the change of season and my love of the smells of the forest after rain, the crunch of leaves underfoot and the fascination with creatures on the forest floor.
The title is a play on words and a twist on the meaning of senescence. In biology senescence or biological aging, means the process where cells irreversibly stop dividing and enter a state of permanent growth arrest without undergoing cell death. In Autumn, trees stop their growth but do not die. The leaves on the ground, though not growing refer to the biological aging, decay, and with a stretch and twist on the meaning, do not really die, as they live on in the food chain through the creatures that consume them.
